Granby Family Updates

February 2026

Welcome Back
Dear Granby Families,
Hard to believe we’re already turning the page to February. While it’s the shortest month of the year, it is always one of our busiest and most heart-warming stretches at Granby Elementary.

This month, our hallways will be filled with the spirit of kindness and a deep dive into the stories that shape our world. Here is a look at what’s coming up:
  • Black History Month: We are excited to celebrate and bring awareness to the achievements and history of Black Americans through special projects
  • Kindness Week (Feb. 16-22): Even though Kindness Week falls during our winter break, students will participate in "Random Acts of Kindness" challenges to help strengthen our school community.
  • Valentine’s Day/Friendship Parties: Keep an eye out for specific classroom communications regarding Valentine's Day festivities.
  • President’s Day is Monday, February 16th, which falls during our winter break. All school facilities will be closed.
A Note on Wellness
As we navigate the peak of the winter season, please remember to keep your students bundled up for outdoor recess. If your child is feeling under the weather, we appreciate you following our health protocols to keep our classrooms healthy and vibrant.

Principal’s Message
February is a great time to check in with your child about their "mid-year" goals. Whether it’s mastering a new math concept or making a new friend, we are here to support every step of their journey. Your partnership is what makes this school a true community.

Thank you for your continued support, and let’s make it a fantastic month!

With Kindness,
Gina

UPK and Kindergarten Registration

UPK Registration for the 2026-27: We invite any child who will turn four years old on or before December 1, 2026 to register for UPK. The Fulton City School District will offer full day classrooms in our elementary buildings and the half day (AM) option may be offered off site or in an elementary building for the 2026-27 school year.

**The number of available seats for the full day classrooms are dependent on the allocation the District receives from NYS. In the event that more registrations are received than can be accommodated, the district will conduct an initial selection process via an open lottery in which children will be selected at random. Those children whose families have completed the registration process by March 6, 2026 will be part of the initial selection process.
  • A completed registration includes birth certificate and proof of residency with registration information.
  • Families who were part of the initial selection process will be called in order of selection and informed by March 20, 2026:
  • Whether their child has been accepted into a full day classroom, and
  • Which building is available for their child:
                  OR
  • Where their child is on the waiting list for a full day seat, and
  • Which location or building and time(s) is available for a half day seat

2026-27 Kindergarten Registration: We invite any child who will turn five years old on or before December 1, 2026 to register for Kindergarten.
  • A completed registration includes birth certificate and proof of residency with registration information.
  • Current UPK students will fill out a contact form in order to register for Kindergarten. UPK classroom teachers will collect the form.

Is Your Child Too Sick for School?

While daily learning is our priority, student health comes first. If you’re unsure whether to send your child to school, please check the Health Services page on the FCSD website.

Kids should be kept home if they have any of the following symptoms:
  • Fever in the past 24 hours Vomiting in the past 24 hours Diarrhea in the past 24 hours
  • Chills Sore throat Bad cough, with a very runny nose
  • Strep Throat (must have been taking an antibiotic for at least 24 hours before returning to school)

Integrity- Character Trait of the Month

Throughout February we will focus on what it looks and sounds like to embody the trait of Integrity!

Students who are role models:
  • Keep promises
  • Stand up for others- choosing not to join in when others are gossiping or bullying, and instead standing up for the person being targeted.
  • Return items that you found that don't belong to you-example: turning in a phone, clothing item, toy to the Lost and Found instead of keeping it.
  • Own your actions- apologize sincerely instead of making excuses or blaming someone else.
  • Admit mistakes

Special Education Learning Opportunities for Families

The Mid-State Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Center at Syracuse University is an excellent resource that provides both in-person and virtual learning opportunities for educators and families. There are some exciting and informative opportunities coming up including:
  • "CPSE to CSE for Parents" - VIRTUAL 2/25/26, 12:00-1:30pm
  • "Student Directed Individualized Education Program (IEP) for Families" - VIRTUAL 2/25/26, 3:00-5:00pm

Click here to see full descriptions of the current offerings. Families may register by simply filling out the Google Form here.

Outdoor Recess and Winter Weather

Our children thrive on exercise, fresh air and sunshine (when we have it). As long as our child watch calculator says it's warm enough to go out- we're headed outside to play!

Please be sure your child has a winter coat, boots, hat and gloves. If they wish to play in the snow, snow snow pants are required.

Need help getting warm winter attire for your child? Please call Granby at 315-593-5480.

Emergency Closing and Delay Information

When delays and closings happen, all FCSD families will be notified through ParentSquare.

As in the past, notifications will also be sent to Facebook, Instagram, local news and media outlets. Finally, a popup alert will appear on the district website.

Make sure your contact information in ParentSquare is correct to receive the fastest information available!

When there is a two-hour delay:

  • School for students in grades 7-12 will begin at 9:35 am.

  • The elementary school day will begin at 10:30 am.

  • Morning UPK will be cancelled.

  • Bus pick up times will be 2 hours later than they are on a regular school day.

  • Breakfast is not served at school.
