Academic Intervention Services (AIS)

Supporting Students Every Step of the Way

The Fulton City School District is committed to supporting every student’s success. Academic Intervention Services (AIS) are designed to provide additional help and targeted support for students who, based on their school performance, may need extra assistance to meet the New York State Learning Standards or requirements for high school graduation.

AIS supports are flexible and responsive, and are provided in addition to regular classroom instruction. Services are adjusted as students make progress and are always focused on helping students build confidence, skills, and independence.

Academic Intervention Services may include:

  • Additional instructional support during the school day
Students may receive extra help from a reading, mathematics, or content-area teacher in small groups or individualized settings to reinforce key skills and concepts.
  • Extended Day Learning
After-school support opportunities are available through our community school program at the elementary and junior high levels, providing extra time for practice, reinforcement, and skill development in a supportive environment.
  • Extended Year Learning
Additional learning opportunities may be offered during the summer for students at the junior high and high school to help prevent learning loss and support continued academic growth.
  • Student Support Services
Students may also receive support from a team that can include:
    • Home–school liaisons
    • Guidance counselors
    • School nurses
    • School psychologists
    • Community agency partners

These supports help address academic, social, emotional, and health-related factors that can impact learning.

Working in Partnership with Families

Families are an important part of the AIS process. Parents and guardians are notified when students receive AIS, informed about the types of support being provided, and encouraged to partner with schools to support student progress at home.

Our goal is to ensure every student has the resources and support they need to succeed—academically, socially, and emotionally.
