Fulton City School District Announces New Superintendent

Posted Date: 4/22/25 (10:45 PM)

The Fulton City School District is pleased to announce the conclusion of its superintendent search with the selection of Douglas Lawrence as the district’s next superintendent. Lawrence, who most recently served as Assistant Superintendent and then Interim Superintendent at Liverpool Central School District, brings a wealth of experience and leadership to his new role in Fulton.

The search for a new superintendent began in January following the retirement announcement of Superintendent Brian Pulvino. While the process remained closed to the public to ensure respect and confidentiality for applicants, Board of Education President Brenda Abelgore provided regular updates during district board meetings.

After a thorough and thoughtful search, the Board is confident that Lawrence is the right choice to lead the district into its next chapter. His agreement with the district is being finalized and is expected to be completed by the board’s first meeting in May.

"Mr. Lawrence is going to be a great fit for our district. He really has an expertise on the needs and challenges facing a community like Fulton," said President Abelgore. "We as a board are very excited to have him join us."

Lawrence is expected to officially begin his tenure in July following Pulvino’s retirement. Additional opportunities for the community to meet and welcome him will be announced in the coming weeks.
